Restoring Stickies Database in Mac

In the excitement of having a new laptop, I had my old one reset without thinking that I may need some files in there.  Yes, usually you can copy them over but not when it's the Stickies Database that we're talking about.

So here's the 3 different ways I discovered in restoring the Stickies database from my backup.

How to restore from timeline backup
So the first thing I did was to research how to restore the Stickies Database from a timeline backup.  I think it would work if I was restoring from my old laptop.  But since it has already been reset, I was unable to use this process.

Showing hidden files using disk utilities
Next up was looking for ways on how to unhide hidden files.  I know the Stickies Database is located in the Library folder and is hidden.  I just need to see it to be able to copy it.  This article provides instructions on how to unhide hidden files using disk utilities.  I thought it was too much hassle so I looked on further and found....

the winner: Showing hidden files using Funter

In searching for alternatives to the disk utilities steps, I found this cool little tool called Funter.  At this point in time, I've wasted so much effort already and when I found this tool, I wished this was the first thing I searched for.

Funter is so easy to use (if you read the instructions).  And a freeware too!

Long story short, i used this new tool to unhide hidden files, looked for my StickiesDatabase in my timeline backup and voila! My old StickiesDatabase is now in my new mac.

Happy!

Booklet Printing for Mac

I needed to test print a copy of our missalette to see how the end product will look like. I have engaged Printdivas to create the cover and have just finalized the songs to include for the wedding mass. Now, the only problem I had is how to print the missalette as a booklet.

I managed to find Cocoabooklet and it seemed promising. But after downloading it, I tried several times to launch it with no success. And I belatedly discovered that it is not compatible with Snow Leopard OS version.

Thankfully, I found Cheap Impostor.

The application allows for duplex printing and manual duplex. As my home printer is a Brother DCP-130C, I had to set the setting to manual duplex. My printer is designed to print from the last page so it is a good thing Cheap Impostor also allows for Reverse odd pages option. In this setting, the application creates two pdf files for the odd and even pages. The instruction was easy enough: print the odd pages first then reset the papers and print the even pages after.

I followed the instruction and after only my first try, voila, I've got the missalette in the booklet form.

I was so happy I asked my twin sister Malou to meet me to see the final product. It's so pretty. I can't wait to see if the missalette cover will fit in well with the rest of it. I shall know next week when my Bello arrives with a few copy of the finished missalette cover.

Iphone Games

These are two of my favorites Iphone games. I liked the free versions so much that I succumbed to temptations and bought the full versions. He he.

Fanatic

Three long hours of agony to my legs and feet. Three long hours of feeling the sudden pang of hunger. Three long hours of waiting with just my book to keep me sane. And yet I persevered and I waited for my turn.

I queued up today to get my iPhone at Singtel ComCentre. My appointment was at 7pm - 9pm. I arrived just a few minutes after 6:30pm. I figured that I still have enough time. Somehow, with the number of people walking in the same direction, I found my feet walking a bit faster in trying to get to where I need to be.

It took some time for me to get to the actual queue. There wasn't any clear direction outside of the building so I ended up asking about 5 - 6 people for directions. When I finally found the place, que horror! The line is really, really long. But still, I made my way to the end of the queue and waited. And waited and waited.

The line moved and I finally made it to the front. Then we were told to move. So we were walking and walking, only to find out we're just walking towards another queue! Again, I persevered. I want that iphone! The line again moved and I again found myself in another queue. This time, it does move fast so I figured it must be okay. We were then asked to move on. Of course, on to another queue! I was really hungry at this time and have been on my feet for 2.5 hours. But I waited again until finally it was my turn.

Counter 32. So in I went to the counter and gave my papers. After much fuss and about, it turned out corporate accounts (like mine) is not valid for the iphone upgrade! Oh my golly! I told the girl I will not go out of the store empty handed after queueing for 3 hours! Unfortunately, the girl cannot do anything about the corporate account. I ended up signing up for a new one.

When I finally got out of Singtel, I met two of my friends who have been waiting for over an hour outside. From far away, they can see me smiling so wide even after the more than 3 hour wait. One even said with the look I had, he almost thought I got married instead of just getting the iphone. Ha ha ha.

But I am definitely loving my iphone as it is a perfect complement for my Mac. It sure is worth the wait.

iPhoto Photo Book

It was supposed to be my gift to my mother on her birthday. But I was too busy at work that I never had a chance to do it. But over the weekend, I finally found the time to create my Photo book. I think my parents would be happy with it.

Princesses Can Be Bullies Too

People think of bullies as someone who are bigger, older. Someone who can physically hurt another and uses that power to bully someone else...
